I have been to Swanzey many, many times. It is home to the Cheshire County Fair and Sam’s Outdoor Outfitters (where I bought my kayak) and plenty of other great places. But one of the things that first enticed me to photograph Swanzey is that it has several covered bridges. I began photographing New Hampshire’s covered bridges in 2011, long before I ever thought of TouringNH. I started photographing them by county and since Cheshire County is right next door (and loaded with covered bridges), I started there. This post will be a combination of old and new photos.

The day Martha (check out her awesome blog to see her take on the day) and I went to Swanzey, it started out chilly and overcast, then we ran into sleet, snow squalls and then it cleared up and became partly sunny and by the time we were headed home, it had clouded up again and was down right cold. You gotta love New England weather!

The next bridge we came to was the Slate Bridge. This is the third bridge in this location. The original bridge collapsed in 1842, then in 1993 an arsonist burned the bridge and it was rebuilt in 2001…

On the way to the next bridge, I drove past a garage that I just HAD to turn around and go back to. The yard was full of vintage Cadillac’s. ..
I going to have to do a little research and find out who the property owner is and go back and spend an afternoon photographing this trip down memory lane.

Swanzey is definitely worth the trip, there are so many cool places to visit and you never know what you might come across!

Touring NH 
I’ve seen a lot of Swanzey but I’ve never seen those Cadillacs! It looks like the one in the second photo has a 57 Chevy hood on it.
I don’t know enough about cars to be able to tell what kind of hood. All I know is I thought they are very cool and hope to get back there soon!
I wonder who all those rusty cars belong to? They should start a motor museum 🙂
I’m looking into that. It looks like maybe the owner restores them.
