Stoddard is the 17th town in Cheshire County that I have toured. Only 6 more towns and Cheshire County will be complete. There are plenty of outdoor activities to keep you busy in Stoddard. I have hiked, hunted , photographed and just enjoyed the scenery. I mentioned the Harris Center in my post about Harrisville, but they also have land in Stoddard…
For some reason, it seems every time I head to Stoddard with my camera, it is raining or overcast…
I was surprised when I got to Highland Lake Marina that the restaurant was open, but after checking out their website, it makes sense. The are there year round for everyone that enjoys Highland Lake; the boaters, the snowmobilers and the ice fishermen (and those of us that show up by car). I was very surprised to see people out ice fishing this early in the season. I didn’t think that the ice would be thick enough yet to support the sleds, but, there they were…
We haven’t had any prolonged cold spells yet. I don’t know how thick the ice is, but I wouldn’t be caught on it yet! It has been very warms for the last few days and the snow that we got last week is already melting. I love the way it was sliding off the roof of the barn, but still hanging on to its form…
Ready for the Holiday…
On one road, I found what I hesitate to call a junk yard, but there was a lot of old machinery hanging around. Some of it was pretty cool, I thought…
I also found a bird that I’m sure should have flown south for the winter…
At what turned out to be the end of another one of those roads that is supposed a through road, I found a pond with a lovely bridge…
Back on the main road…
It was starting to get late by the time I got to Cold Spring Pond. A light rain was falling and the warm air combined with the cold snow to form a dense fog over the pond…
My final shot of Stoddard, for now, was taken from the side of the road near the trailhead to the Pitcher Mountain Firetower. The sun was setting and lit up the clouds. A perfect way to end my tour of Stoddard…

Gorgeous shots as always but I love the fact that you had shots from 2011 to intersperse the boat with the flags was very cool to see both in summer and winter. I think the snow sliding off the roof was my favorite. Great job!
The snow coming off the roof really caught my attention. My favorite is the flamingo, it just made me laugh. I was glad that I remembered that I had those older images.
I thought about climbing Pitcher Mountain again the other day but I wasn’t sure if it would be possible without snow shoes. It looks like they got a fair amount of snow. I like the shot of the snowy rocks in the river.
I’ve never climbed Pitcher Mountain but I’ve heard the view is spectacular and the blueberries are everywhere. Maybe next year.
Those headlight eyes reminded me of Short Circuit too. That was my eldest son’s favourite film. You certainly have a lot of snow there 🙂
I loved that movie! I’d be happy to send you all of our snow!!!
Laura, I SO love the flamingo! It just seems fitting. 🙂 And the snow sliding off the barn roof. Happy New Year to you! All the best, Terri & James
I’ve been feeling like the flamingo lately, “I knew I should have flown south!”
